“At the bottom of enmity between strangers lies indifference.” Soren Kierkegaard
LJ: I innocently read about the QB formerly known as Brett Favre flying to Minnesota while checking The ONH Twitter account. I am now completely over this story. I am taking a resolute stand on the QB formerly known as Brett Favre...and that stand is indifference.
I am beyond the point of hatred of this story because I no longer care. I will not read one article about him this year online or otherwise. I will change any channel where his image or name appears. His story is now my Fredo Corleone. His visage is being dumped unceremoniously over the side of my boat.
This old prima donna has now overshadowed all that was once good with his character and his career. The loyal, small market, huge arm hero who successfully defeated the bully, big market teams is gone. The NFL’s David who defeated the Goliaths is now a completely corrupt shell of his former self, operating purely on ego and vanity.
I’ve lost count of how many NFL franchises he’s held hostage over the past five years and I’m not bothering to look it up. Many fans will boo this man as he trots out onto the field to raise his ever increasing record of INTs, but I am taking it a step farther. I am not attending, tuning in, channeling, or reading anything put forth by the media about this man. I will not add to the ratings that cover this clown.
Acknowledging this man with boos gives him too much credit. After all, sports are entertainment. With no attendance, no ratings, no clicks...there will be no coverage. Enjoy this NFL season and support your favorite teams, but omit this one overly seasoned mercenary. You will feel better that you did.
I am flipping the “Field of Dreams” script where it is famously noted, “If you build it…he will come.” My new Favre mantra sounds like this, “If you ignore him, he will eventually fade away.”
PT:I, too, am very tired of this story. I really wish Farve would have ridden out into the sunset a few years ago, but he chose not to do so. That is fine with me because it is his choice.
My problem is not with Brett coming back as much as the constant coverage this story. With all the shenanigans last summer, did have any effect on the power in the NFL? NOPE, the Jets were nowhere to be seen in January. Does this make the Vikings the team to beat in the NFC? No chance.
As fans, we are force fed stories about his return like we really care. I do think Farve could have handled it in a better way, but he is not the one talking about it everyday on ESPN.
I feel that Farve was a great player, but the over-saturation by the media has almost made him unwatchable.
