Weekend Quick View (8/14 - 8/16)

1. Usain Bolt:
LJ: 9.58 seconds. Really? 100 m = 328.1 ft. Bolt flashed down the track at 34.25 ft/s or 23.35 mph (yes, I enjoyed doing that math). The showdown with Tyson Gay materialized but proved to be no contest. Gay does deserve recognition for his 9.71 seconds, an American record.
PT: Nice math, nerd. Do you really think this guy is clean? Ben Johnson Jr. was fast, though.

2. YE Yang defeats Tiger in Sunday showdown:
LJ: YE Yang win or Tiger loss? Tiger didn't play his best golf Sat/Sun, but give Yang credit for turning the pressure onto Tiger. His eagle on 14 flipped the script on Tiger, known for his pressure applying shots, and made him have to play catch-up. An overall intriguing PGA Championship that should be remembered for a competitive finale and not as a "choke."
PT: Tiger is great, but call it what it was. A CHOKE. He shot a 75 on Sunday with a 2 stroke lead to start the day. Yang was great though.

3. Red Sox Plummeting:
LJ: The Red Sox dropped 2 of 3 in a crucial match-up with the Rangers this weekend, losing their Wild Card lead. Ian Kinsler killed the Sox and joined the 25/20 club as a 2B, a rare feat. TheONH favorite Josh Hamilton batted .333 for the weekend raising his average to .264, so there was some solace derived from and utterly dreadful display.
PT: Amazing that after the news of steroids in the Red Sox clubhouse came out, that they can not hit a thing. Their pitching may be great but it doesn’t matter if you can’t hit. BTW, Cardinals are now up 5 games on Cubs.

4. David Wright Plunked:
LJ: Wright took a 93 mph fastball of the noggin this weekend placing him on the 15-day DL. LJ's rotisserie fantasy baseball team will miss Wright in the upcoming weeks. Not coincedently LJ's team forfeited its commanding hold on first place...an all around let down of a baseball weekend.
PT: Beyond scary. Baseball is very lucky no one has died on the field in a long time. Hit batsmen and hard comebackers to the pitcher are very dangerous

5. UNC Football Notes:
LJ: Donovan Tate left football camp late last week and is expected to sign with Padres - a very good move for the #3 overall MLB draft pick. Carl Gaskins (OL) out for season with an ACL tear. Ryan Taylor (H-Back) out with MCL sprain for at least a month. Tar Heels landed two new commitments for the 2010 class last week.
PT: Was Tate ever going to UNC? Nope. Just another may to boost those recruiting rankings. The man has to run out of snake oil you would think someday.
