Weekend Review

1. Panthers Lose Again: LINK
LJ: But...it's preseason football. Steve Smith? Out. Jonathan Stewart? Out. Jon Beason? Out. DeAngelo Williams? Stud. Jake Delhomme barely gets it done with a full arsenal of offensive weapons, so to expect him to perform better with less is unrealistic. Still shaking my head at his latest contract - but obvious question remains - who would be realistic and better?
PT: Jake barely gets in done? He only played two series and both series were without his top 2 wideouts (Smith/Muhammad). One of those drives, the Panthers scored a TD by Delhomme making good throws. If you are looking for Jake to put up great stats, keep waiting because that is not what is required of him. As long as they are healthy, everything should be fine come September 13th.

2. Walk-Off unassisted triple-play! LINK
LJ: Always cool when this happens - and a HUGE bailout for the pitcher. I pulled off a an unassisted play myself in coach pitch, but aren't professionals supposed to be able to avoid this? I attended a game at Fenway in the late '80s where Tom Brunansky hit into two of these in the same game. Those are my triple play fun facts...
PT: At least you did not start a story with "one time in band camp..."

3. Red Sox continue free fall! LINK
LJ: After starting off the year 8-0 against the Evil Empire, the Red Sox have dropped 6 of the last 7 games to drop to 7.5 games back. Not exactly playing their best during a crucial part of the season, and defeating Beckett is insult on top of injury.
PT: Not looking good for the Sox. When the pitching was good, the offense stunk. Now it the other way around. I predict the Sox will be home in October

4. Smoltz with the W! LINK
LJ: The addition of Smoltz could bolster an already tremendous staff. Credit to the Cards for their willingness to give the veteran and future HOF'er another Big League shot.
PT: What a comeback. 9k’s in five innings, including seven straight. Proved how tough it is to pitch in Boston. Cardinals have the biggest lead in baseball. Thanks Cubs

5. Beasley, baggy, busted, Battlestar Galactica... LINK
LJ: Not being a real big tat' guy, I'll leave that commentary to the more informed, but will somebody please tell public figures to examine their pictures before broadcasting themselves in precarious situations to the World Wide Web?
PT: He has nothing in the Birdman. (LINK)
