LJ: I am a big fan of Kevin Youkilis. I like the way he plays the game. I usually like the way he represents Boston (even his cameo on Man v Food: LINK)...but this is inexcusable:
I cannot help but reminisce about the Nolan Ryan vs. Robin Ventura bout circa 1993 (LINK: I cannot believe that was 16 years ago). Questionable mound charging tactics by both batters, and it begs the questions: "Would you rather get your ass handed to you by someone twice your age or half your age?"
Now, if I had my "druthers", I would not have my backside handed to me by anyone. I am a fan of winking at the pitcher after he hits you (I set an unofficial record in HBPs at my high school). But, if I had to eat crow, I'd still rather be Youkilis.
Yes, Youkilis throwing his helmet was very unmanly (LINK) and having his weak tackle attempt turned on him by a 150 lbs. pitcher is quite embarrassing, but it still does not match the headlock and multi-face-punch Ventura was handed by HOFer Ryan.
End of the day: Red Sox win, 2 game win streak after Yankee series unpantsing, 1.5 game lead in wild card race, 5.5 games behind the dreaded Yankees (insert Bill Simmons self inflicting wound reference here).
