Roy Williams went deep into his bench, again, with 16 players getting floor time. No Tar Heel played over 23 minutes and the scoring was evenly dispersed. Marcus Ginyard led the way with 17 points follow by Deon Thompson with 13 and Tyler Zeller with 12.
All five freshmen saw at least 10 minutes of play and were led by Dexter Strickland's 9 points. John Henson almost connected on a Vince Carter-esque alley-oop that would have brought the house down.
These early blow-outs might seem trivial but they will prove extremely important as Roy Williams figures out the player rotation.
Game Notes:
- Ginyard is looking much more explosive since he dropped 20 pounds over the off season. He is looking quicker and more agile this year...especially on his dunks.
- Three-point shooting is a concern: 5-13 38.5%.
- Turnovers are a concern: 19 turnovers.
- The Heels are sharing the ball well: 29 assists on 35 made baskets.
- The Heels height and defense will be key this year: 9 blocks.
- Vegas oddsmakers are unreal: Line NCCU +46 - Heels win by 47.
