NCSU vs. FSU Game Thoughts

Philip Thompson: The Wolfpack are now the official ‘Turd in the Punchbowl’ team for 2009. Nothing can go right for them. Even when taking the lead with just over 3 minutes left on Saturday, I was convinced there was no way they pull out a win. Our defense can not stop anyone. This season is snowballing out of control, and if they are not able to defeat Maryland this weekend, I believe they will finish the season by going 0 for October and November.

Lawrence Jordan: It takes a special fan-base to evolve from championing a divisional crown in the preseason to predicting a defeated conference schedule. The Pack's weakness from the start was their defense.

Saturday's game against the 'Noles was simply a game of positioning. The team that positioned themselves to have the ball last had the advantage, because neither team could muster a defensive stop. The Pack had their shot with 1:36 remaining, but couldn't sustain a drive into field goal range. In a game where the teams combined for over 1000 yards for ofense and 87 points, the game was decided by FSU's defense pressuring and sacking Wilson in the final minutes.

Worth noting that Tar Heel nation was that special fan base until Ryan Williams decided he was going to drop the ball in front of his own goal post Thursday night in Blacksburg. Now its all peaches and roses again in blue heaven for the 1-3 Heels. - MS.

  2. To belittle the win over VT in Blacksburg on a Thursday night on national television is unbecoming.

The Heels offense actually put some points on the board and the defense played up to their capability the entire game. The win was an entire team effort. To marginalize it to one play smacks of jealously...

  3. No football fan in NC should belittle any win, especially those that seem respectable (see Heels over BCS #23 VT, or Pack over BCS #12 Pitt). In dealing with State and Carolina, we are talking about two schools who have combined for 2 winning league records in the last 10 years (both of which were at merely 5-3, and now D. Cutcliff has the Devils sitting at 3-1 - preposterous!).

The intent was aimed at acknowledging the state of the Heel fan base 5 days ago, and the preseason delusions of grandeur on both ends of the triangle.

  4. Yes, my preseason prediction of 10-2 now looks comical and utterly foolish. The TOB vs. Butch banter has surely quieted...

Who knew Yates took lessons from Delhomme in the offseason? Who knew UVA/Duke would have a combined 5 conference wins at this point in the season, and UNC/NCSU would have 1 conference win combined?
